A University of Alabama student was arrested early Tuesday
morning after he allegedly assaulted a female jogger by pulling
down her pants, and later breaking into a nearby home and
stealing women’s underwear, police said.
John Everett Threadgill, 19, was arrested after Tuscaloosa
police say he admitted to attempted sexual assault and burglary
of items, including alcoholic beverages and women’s underwear,
WBRC reported.
Police were called to the home of a woman on Monday after she
said a man approached her from behind while she was jogging and
pulled her pants down, attempting to sexually assault her. She
said she struggled with her assailant who eventually took off.
The next day around 12:30 a.m., police received another call of
a man, matching a similar description to the jogger’s attacker,
who was chased out of a woman’s home after breaking in and
stealing underwear.
Two hours later, using a description of the attacker and his
car, University of Alabama police tracked down Threadgill, who
was taken into custody and later admitted to the attempted
sexual assault and burglary during an interview with
authorities, WBRC reported.
A search of his car resulted in the missing underwear and
alcohol, according to the report.
He was charged with second-degree burglary and first-degree
sexual abuse. His bond was set at $45,000.
The university’s associate vice president for communications,
Monica Watts, said that Threadgill has been banned from the
school’s campus.
Police say he also is being investigated in other cases where
women were attacked.
