• [WR] REVIEW: Road Wild 1998: WCWs Really Bad Summer Idea. (2/3)

least one thing that will not be changing, which could be a good thing.

According to PW Insider Elite, the production crew for NXT will not be
changing and it will be the same crew that runs the shows on USA. This is
the same crew who produced Takeover: Toronto and last year’s Evolution
event. The crew has been put together by Triple H over the last few
years. This will include the backstage and technical crew, who will handle
the overall look and feel of the show.

How does this look? Check out how Takeover: Toronto went:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: That’s probably the best thing that could happen in this area, especially if NXT is staying down at Full Sail. The production has been
one of the better parts about the show and keeping it from being a third
main roster show is a good idea. If WWE wants NXT to be different, it
needs to feel and look different, which is where the production side of
    things comes into play.

Do you like NXT’s production? How should the show be presented? Let us
    know in the comments below.

Thats One. Mick Foley Is Impressed With A New WWE Superstar.

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 10:22 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/thats-one-mick-foley-impressed-new-wwe-superstar/

It’s a big compliment. One of the most important things to do in wrestling is make new stars. You can only run with the same talent forever and at
times, you have to do something to freshen up the talent pool. That
doesn’t seem to be a strong suit for WWE, but in this case they have
figured out the right way to go and a wrestling legend seems to agree.

Mick Foley has posted a Tweet praising Buddy Murphy for his performances on
the last two episodes of SmackDown Live. Over the last two weeks, Murphy
has faced Roman Reigns in a losing effort and then defeated Daniel Bryan
this week. Foley said that two great performances in a row are no fluke
and Murphy is the real deal. Murphy is currently part of the story
involving Reigns being attacked by a mystery assailant.

Watching #SmackDown on DVR, so I’m a little late to the pardukey, but @WWE_Murphy is the real deal, isn’t he? Two great performances in a row is
    no fluke. https://t.co/U1RPAtAXhr

    - Mick Foley (@RealMickFoley) August 21, 2019

I would say the talent is there. Check out Murphy vs. Reigns and then
    Bryan:

Opinion: Foley is absolutely right here as Murphy was having some great
matches on 205 Live and has now continued to do so on the main roster. He
is only thirty years old and in the prime of his career and it is cool to
see him getting a chance like this. That being said, why in the world did
it take so long for WWE to give him a chance? He was called up from 205
Live four months ago and only now is he getting in the ring. Why wait so
    long?

Do you agree with Foley? How far can Murphy go? Let us know in the
    comments below.

Keeping The Time Even. WWE May Cancel 205 Live Soon.

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 09:42 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/keeping-time-even-wwe-may-cancel-weekly-show-move-fox/

Put one on, take one off. WWE is changing in a hurry at the moment and
that means it can be difficult to keep up with all of the programming that
they are offering. With so many shows week to week, another hour of
television sounds like it would make things even harder. At the same time though, there is a chance that WWE could take a show away to balance things out, which may be the case.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, there is a chance
that 205 Live could be canceled or moved to the WWE Network when SmackDown
Live moves to FOX. The network wants the tapings to last for three hours,
but 205 Live is considered to be a failed experiment and something new may
be brought in. What that new idea may be is not clear at the moment.

They would be getting rid of a good show. Check out this week’s huge 205 Live main event:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: As much as I like 205 Live, I can’t say I blame WWE for thinking this way. FOX is not going to want to showcase a program where most of the audience is leaving as the show takes place and WWE has never found a way around that problem. At the same time though, I’m not sure what they can
put there in its place, unless they put 205 Live on early, which would seem
to be the solution all along.

Do you like 205 Live? Will the show survive? Let us know in the comments below.

(VIDEO): Keep The Camera Rolling. Wild Brawl Takes Place After NXT Goes
Off The Air And A Ladder Gets Involved

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 09:40 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/video-keep-camera-rolling-wild-brawl-takes-place-nxt-goes-off-air-ladder-gets-involved/

They’re not done yet. WWE offers a lot of programming every single week
and that total is just going to keep growing. With NXT scheduled to expand
to two hours a week next month, the total hours of WWE programming keeps getting higher and higher. Until we get there though, NXT is only going to have about an hour a week, though this time around that wasn’t long enough.

WWE has posted a video to its YouTube page showing Matt Riddle and Killian
Dain continuing their brawl that ended the show. Dain defeated Riddle in
the show’s main event but Riddle charged at him as the show went off the
air. After NXT ended, the fight went outside and wound up at the loading
dock, where Dain hit a backsplash onto a ladder onto Riddle. There is no
word on when or where their next match will take place.

It was a heck of a fight. Check out what kept happening after the show
    ended:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Anyone for Riddle vs. Dain in a ladder match for the #1
contendership on the first live NXT on USA? You don’t bring in a ladder unless that is where you are likely going and the first live show could use that kind of a match. Riddle is the kind of person that NXT would like to feature on a show like that and Dain is the monster he could be slaying.
Either way, another match between the two sounds good to me.

Where do you think this feud goes? Who will win in the end? Let us know

KBs Review: Either The Sky Is Falling Or The Sky Is The Limit

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 08:59 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/kbs-review-either-sky-falling-sky-limit/

We live in a wrestling world where things are changing every few days.
Whether it’s someone jumping to a new promotion, an injury taking someone out, another big show taking place or one of a host of other things, there
are all kinds of changes taking place. The impact of these changes could
vary depending on your tastes, but they are certainly taking place. That
was the case again this week and this one is going to cause some changes.

This week it was announced, after a week or so of being all but confirmed,
that NXT would be moving over to the USA Network, further strengthening the bond between USA and WWE. At the same time though, it doesn’t exactly
sound like the best news for NXT fans for whatever reason you would like to choose, including the main roster style taking over NXT (I know it has been said that the changes aren’t coming but how long do you really expect that
    to last?).

I’ve been a huge NXT fan since January 2, 2013 when Big E. came out to confront the Shield in a nearly perfect moment. Since then NXT has become
the best wrestling show in the world and seeing them have what would be considered a good show elsewhere ould be considered an off week. Since the announcement came down, I’ve been worried about what we might be seeing,
but maybe it won’t be so bad.

That’s what we’re going to be taking a look at today: how bad could things get, but also how good could things get? I know it sounds mostly bad for
the fans and probably NXT as a whole, but there are certainly some good
things that could come out of it for both sides. At the same time, there
is the AEW factor as well, which is what this whole thing is built around
and will certainly come into play.

    Remember the really old days:
[This post contains video, click to play]

First of all, this ends the idea of NXT being a minor league
promotion/show. If NXT is going to be on the same network as Monday Night
Raw and SmackDown Live with the same time slot as SmackDown Live, it stops being a level beneath them. The show will be just as available to the
audience as the flagship show, with the only difference being the size of
the arenas the wrestlers are performing in.

This is already something that could go either way on the positive or
negative scale. On one hand, it’s a lot more exposure for the talent, who have worked very hard to get here and have arguably been a lot better than anything Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live have been offering for the
last several years. NXT is as popular as it has been for a reason and now
the talent is going to get a chance to showcase themselves on a much bigger stage. In theory, that should also mean a big increase in pay, as the
money being brought in should partially go to the talent (I have a feeling
    WWE will see it otherwise).

On the other side though, the promotion is going to take a big hit as it
loses some of that underground feeling. NXT feels like the little engine
that could (assuming the little engine had a billion dollar company
supporting it and a revolving door of all star level talent) and could
always go with the “follow THAT main roster” mentality. If you put it on equal footing with the other shows, the expectations go up as the show is
now one of them rather than the show that gets to prove they’re better. It doesn’t go away entirely, but it’s now something they have to deal with rather than something they can thrive on.

    Moving on can be hard:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Then you have one of the more obvious changes: there is now twice as much
NXT to watch. On one hand, that’s quite the positive change. NXT is one
of the best wrestling shows of all time at this point and getting to see
even more of it sounds like a good thing. There are so many names in NXT
that we don’t get to see too often and with so many new names coming in
(they have enough to run a tournament of eight people we haven’t seen before), there is more than enough talent to fill in the two hour time slot.

At the same time though, going back to the same problem as earlier, this is going to take away a lot of what makes the show work so well. A lot of the appeal of NXT is that it leaves you wanting more. The talent rotates in
and out so well that while you see some of them every few weeks, there is enough time in between their appearances that they never overstay their welcome. It’s a nice feeling to see a talented performer that you haven’t watched in a long time come back out and show why they’re as popular as
they are. That will still be around, but it won’t be around as much.

Next, and arguably the most important, the main roster is likely to have a bigger hand in what happens on NXT. This one is going to entirely depend
on the details, because it could go either way. On one hand, there is the
bad idea: Shane McMahon spreading down to NXT, Baron Corbin as NXT
Champion, wrestlers who aren’t worth much on the main roster getting a push in NXT because they have nothing else to do and the NXT talent that is
popular getting shoved down for “stars”.

Then there’s the good idea though, with people like Tyler Breeze, Fandango and Killian Dain getting another chance down in NXT. Those three had
nothing going on where they were but they’re stars when they head to Full Sail. That could be the case with a lot of people as they could use NXT as
a place to try something new and see what works. The talent is already
there and putting them in NXT gives them a fresh place to go in front of a crowd that is going to appreciate them a lot more. It’s going to be a case by case basis, but if it’s done right, this could be very valuable.

Finally, and there isn’t much of a way around this, you have the big X
factor to the whole deal: Vince McMahon. Simply put, if McMahon stays
mostly away from NXT, the show can have a fighting chance. If McMahon only
has a little input here and there (which is fine as he certainly knows what he’s doing more often than not), everything can work well and it can be a positive thing for everyone involved.

    Just change the letters:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Then there’s the other ending. If McMahon decides that he needs to “fix” NXT and make it more like the WWE product, you’re better off firing up NXT
UK and 205 Live now because NXT as we know it is done for. Should the
ratings and audience go low, you can imagine Roman Reigns, Baron Corbin,
Shane McMahon and other stars showing up and the fans revolting against
them because they see NXT as their place. If that happens, there is
nothing that keeps NXT from being the third main roster brand, which is completely defeating the purpose of the whole thing being put on USA. If
that happens, NXT dies in a hurry.

I’d like to believe that this is only going to lead to great things for the black and gold but WWE has taught me better than that over the years. At
the same time though, I don’t think it’s going to be a complete and utter disaster, at least at first. What matters for WWE is to have some counter programming to AEW and NXT is the best option they have. It’s popular
among the “smart” fans and that’s going to be a similar audience to what AEW is going after. This could work, or it could kill off one of the best things that WWE has done in years. As usual it’s hard to say which it will be, but history has shown to bet on the worse option.

    NXT UK Results - August 21, 2019

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 08:49 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/nxt-uk-results-august-21-2019/

    NXT UK

    Date: August 21, 2019

    Location: Plymouth Pavilions, Devon, England

    Commentators: Vic Joseph, Nigel McGuinness

We’ve got less than two weeks to go before Takeover: Cardiff and that means things are going to be hitting the high gear around here. This week that
will a showdown between Walter and Tyler Bate, which has the potential to
be one of the best matches we’ve ever seen around here. Other than that….oh who cares as Walter and Bate are in the same ring. Let’s get to it.
Fabian Aichner/Marcel Barthel vs. The Hunt

No opening sequence this week. Aichner and Primate start things off and
it’s a battle over a lockup to get us going. A knee to the ribs takes
Primate down and it’s off to the armbar. Primate goes animal and bites the ear so it can be off to Boar vs. Barthel. The latter takes him down into an armbar, which seems to be the Imperium way. Barthel starts headbutting away
in the corner as the fans chant what sounds like “WALTER’S B******!”. Aichner comes in for some backbreakers on Boar and it’s a spinebuster into
a kick to the chest (looked like Barthel was setting for a Hart Attack but
    had to pull back).

The chinlock goes on and is broken up just as quickly, meaning it’s back to Primate to clean house. Barthel knocked outside but Aichner shoves the Hunt into each other. Primate backdrops Barthel outside and hits a Cannonball on Aichner but misses a charge into the corner. Stereo dropkicks in the corner take care of Primate and it’s a spinebuster to Boar (Nigel: “SQUEAL PIGGY SQUEAL!”) on the apron. The powerbomb/European uppercut combination
    finishes Primate at 7:43.

Result: Fabian Aichner/Marcel Barthel b. The Hunt Powerbomb/European
    uppercut combination to Primate (7:43)

Sid Scala announces Noam Dar vs. Travis Banks for Takeover.

Aichner and Barthel aren’t interested in an interview. They go into their locker room and a fight is heard as the cameraman is knocked down. Barthel
is down and someone in white socks walks away.
    Kay Lee Ray vs. Shax

Shax isn’t very tall and carries a walking stick. Ray powers her into the corner to start as the fans aren’t sure what to do here. A beating in the corner puts Shax down and the fans boo, though they shift to a WE WANT TONI chant. Shax blocks a suplex but gets clotheslined down as the slow beating continues. For some reason Shax tries to go up and dives straight into a superkick. The Gory Bomb completes the squash at 3:31.

Result: Kay Lee Ray b. Shax Gory Bomb (3:31)

Post match Ray says we’re almost to Cardiff but has to pause for the TONI chants. Ray knows what kind of weak and fragile kind of person that Toni
can be and she’s taking the title at Takeover. Cue Toni but Ray says she knows why Toni doesn’t like to go home. Ray goes home to friends and
family, but Toni goes home to nothing and no one. The only thing she has is
the title and that’s not lasting.

Ray was her friend for years and has heard about everyone leaving Toni. Has
she ever thought that it’s her? Toni is the reason they don’t talk anymore and that all of her boyfriends moved on. She’s also the reason her dad
walked out on the family and that’s a right hand to the face.

Video on Dave Mastiff vs. Joe Coffey in a Last Man Standing match at
Takeover. Both guys count to ten and promise to win the big rematch.

Oliver Carter is here next week.

Jordan Devlin wants to know why he isn’t on the Takeover card. Kenny
Williams comes up to challenge him for next week.

The two of them leave and we pan over to Walter yelling at Alexander Wolfe. Walter isn’t happy with what happened because there is no order or
structure. He’ll meet Bate in the ring tonight anyway.
    Mark Andrews vs. James Drake

If Andrews wins, he and Webster are added to the Tag Team Title match at Takeover. Flash Morgan Webster and Zack Gibson are the respective seconds. Drake says Andrews isn’t going to Takeover as the fans sing about Gibson. It’s time to work on Mark’s arm and that means the flipping escape with Andrews getting in some armdrags of his own. The double arm trap rollup
gives Andrews two and Drake needs a breather in the corner.

The fans stand up in their hatred of Gibson, earning a facepalm from the
man himself. Andrews doesn’t waste time in hitting a standing moonsault for two as the fans are still anti-Grizzled Young Veterans. Drake sends him
into the corner to mess with Andrews’ back and a snap suplex makes it
worse. Andrews is placed on top and pulled down, sending him back first
onto the buckle. The backbreaker gets two and it’s off to a chinlock. As
the fans stand up and then sit back down to confirm their hatred of Gibson, Andrews slips out and hits Stomp 182 for a breather.

An enziguri sends Drake outside for the suicide dive and it’s a heck of a tornado DDT for two back inside. The sitout bulldog looks to set up Fall to Pieces but a distraction from Gibson lets Drake break it up. Andrews is
fine enough for a reverse hurricanrana but here’s Gallus to jump Webster. Gibson yells at them as Andrews grabs Stundog Millionaire for the fast pin
at 11:13 to send he and Webster to Takeover.

Result: Mark Andrews b. James Drake Stundog Millionaire (11:13)

Here’s the returning Trent Seven through the crowd with the announcers thinking he attacked Imperium. Walter and Wolfe come out but Bate chairs
them down. Seven and Wolfe fight on the stage as Walter kicks the chair
away but Bate gets in another shot. The Tyler Driver 97 plants Walter and
Bate poses with the title to end the show.

The roof is coming off at Takeover if he hits this there:

Kevin Owens: From Stone Cold to Out Cold?

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 07:02 PM PDT https://wrestlingrumors.net/tomclark/kevin-owens-stone-cold-out-cold/

Kevin Owens was the latest WWE Superstar to become the heir apparent to
Stone Cold Steve Austin. That status was not given to him by WWE
necessarily, nor did the company ever imply that he was to be next top guy.
But in the eyes of the fans, KO was WWE’s best shot at replicating, at
least a portion, of The Texas Rattlesnake’s vibe.

But that has perhaps come to an end. Owens went from being the latest anti-authority anarchist to essentially begging to keep his job. In a
matter of weeks, Kevin Owens lost his nerve and with it, any hope fans had
that he would become the white hot rebel of WWE.

Vince McMahon’s company has been down this road before. From the moment
that Steve Austin retired and was no longer a full-time presence on TV, WWE
has tried to repeat his rise. Perhaps it was a subconscious effort on the company’s part, or maybe it was indeed intentional.

But either way, fans could see the move happening and recognized it every
time. CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose and even Becky Lynch, are modern examples of Superstars who raged against the WWE machine. Each star had potential to become huge and each one did achieve a level of success. But
none of them reached Stone Cold’s level in terms of having a
career-defining, lasting impact on the company.

Watch Shane levy the fine against Owens on SmackDown!

Much of the reason for that has to do with their booking. Punk was only
allowed to go so far, but he ran into the roadblock of John Cena, who was
in his prime and on top of WWE. Bryan was given the main event nod in spite
of what WWE had perhaps initially planned for him. Once injury struck, he
was out of the picture and never truly regained that main event booking
    again.

Ambrose had the right mentality and the right gimmick for the role of WWE’s raucous renegade. But Dean was often portrayed in a silly fashion and it happened so often that eventually, fans stopped taking him seriously. Lynch has faced her own challenges with booking as well. The jury is still out on what will happen with her career in the longterm, but it’s clear that she, like every other talent on the roster, has a ceiling.

The days of one Superstar exploding and being given free rein to succeed on
the main event scene appear to be over. Or is that truly the case? While it’s possible that WWE never really believed Punk, Bryan, Ambrose or Lynch would actually outperform or out-sell Steve Austin in any meaningful way,
the fact is that wasn’t the point.

Stone Cold was special because of the man behind the gimmick and the
company, as well as the fans, realized that. But that didn’t stop WWE from booking talents in that vigilante vein. It was obvious what the company was going for and everyone knew it.

Watch Owens try to talk Shane down on the fine!

So when Kevin Owens berated Shane McMahon on SmackDown Live and decided to fight against WWE’s corporate power structure, fans knew what was coming next. KO was going to move into the anti-authority role, the same role that Stone Cole played to perfection during The Attitude Era and beyond.

True to form, Owens unapologetically spoke his mind and began his one-man
war on Shane McMahon in the process. The fact that KO even began using the Stone Cold Stunner on a regular basis only helped his cause and reinforced
the notion that he was on his way to a rewind of Austin 3:16.

But almost as soon as he began on that journey, Owens’ forward progress
seems to have stopped. KO was storyline fined $100,000 on August 13 and
from that point on, things have taken a very interesting turn. Instead of fighting even harder against Shane and his cronies, Owens has tried
    appealing to McMahon’s sensible side.

This was the same KO who at one time was a heartless and devious heel, a
man who betrayed every friend he ever had when it meant getting ahead. But
now that Kevin Owens is a babyface, he can no longer be that fearless
Superstar who never lets anyone get the best of him. Or can he?

Shane takes Owens out of the King of the Ring tournament!

It’s possible that Owens’ character is merely playing Shane right
now.  Perhaps it’s all a scheme to catch McMahon unaware and when Shane believes all is well, KO will pounce. Maybe this modern day rebel must use
his mind to make his mayhem. Maybe fans need to wait longer to see how all
    of this will play out.

Or perhaps the Stone Cold character was meant for only Steve Austin and everyone who’s come close since then has been nothing more than a tease. It’s possible that WWE never had any intention of ever replacing or
mimicking Stone Cold and every effort to do so has been done for the fan’s sake. After all, The McMahon Family never beat Stone Cold but they’ve never really lost against anyone since then. Shouldnt that have been an obvious
    hint?

But when fans take Stone Cold out of the equation, they’re left with KO, a Superstar that appears to have hit a wall due to nonsensical booking. It’s
a place that the WWE faithful know all too well and it seems to happen far
too often to ignore. Kevin Owens is in a spot in which he could have been allowed to wreak havoc on Shane, The McMahon family and WWE itself.

But instead, he’s being brought back down to earth while the corporate authority has the last laugh and he may, or may not, be able to overcome in
the end. That is the narrative WWE is giving the fans. Whether or not it’s indeed a storyline or simply the bottom line, remains to be seen.

One of the most important aspects of WWE is the amazing music that

years, the company has partnered with the CFO$, who have created some of
