I guess you are right. His body just could not
handle it all. I have also read that Gunther
Bresnik made Thiem to practice something like
10 hours a day. Nobody's body can stand that
    for very long.

    Necessarily carefully crafted, advanced doping
was part of that practice regime, too. But I
do not hold it against Bresnik or Thiem, because
I know that doping use is necessary in order
to succeed at the highest level.

I am convinced that amphetamine use in tennis
("Adderal pills") makes injuries more likely.
You see, under the influence of amphetamines,
the players *really* work their asses off,
ignoring fatigue and pain. That can cause
injuries because they do not know when to
    lighten up or stop.

I also enjoyed Thiem's game when he was playing
at his best. I always like one-handed backhands
and when I played, I was a one-hander as well.

Thiem made it to the Roland Garros final twice,
losing to Nadal both times. Against many others,
he could have won. He was a great player and
has nothing to be ashamed of. I just don't
understand why he wants keep going until 2024
season is over. It is clear that he will not
    achieve notable success anymore.

I'd like to add: Bresnik has also said that
without his coaching, Thiem would have been
an ITF Satellite Tour level player. That
means that Thiem would have been below the
    ATP Challenger level.

Bresnik's statement may sound a bit arrogant,
but there could be a ring of truth in it.

He wants to enjoy farewell in slams and make his final showing in Vienna in October in front of home crowd, no?

You are probably right. He prefers slow
goodbyes to ending it all right away.

I will disagree with Bresnik here. Thiem had natural ability that
could/should have been honed better. Ten hour practice days is insane,
    at best.

He won 1 slam in the biggest chokefest I've seen, lucky the big 3 were
absent. He lost an AO final 6-4 in 5th to Novak which is notable as he
led 2-1, and lost 2 routine FO finals to Rafa. Aside from that he's
done fuck all, never won a 1000 etc

Well 1 grand slam title, 4 grand slam finals is notable in itself, no?

Add to that 2 YEC finals.

Yes, he couldn't have expected a better career imo.

In hindsight, probably right. I always wanted him to win more, but
