• RG 2024: Alcaraz beats Zverev!!!

From Kalevi Kolttonen@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jun 9 17:46:48 2024
    Hello!

Holy hell, when Alcaraz lead the third set
5-2 I was pretty sure he is going to win
it although he was just one break ahead.

Instead he lost 5 games in a row and Zverev
took the set 7-5. After that devastating
loss, I was very afraid that Alcaraz might
break mentally. He did not. He took the
    fourth set pretty convincingly 6-1.

What a fifth set! Early in the set Alcaraz
was 0-40, probably at 2-1 so Sasha had
great chances to break back. But he could
not, as Alcaraz held his nerve and held
    his serve!

    Congratulations to Carlitos, his team,
his fans and the whole Spain! It was a
    magnificent victory!!!

    br,
    KK

    Alcaraz was impressive as hell.

The match had huge momentum shifts, but
Alcaraz stayed focused. Three grand slam
finals played and three of them *won*. He
must be very happy at this moment.

To be honest, I supported Alcaraz big time
right from the start of the final and watching
this match was a nerve wrecking experience.
Because of those wild momentum shifts, I had
absolutely no idea of what to expect when
the match went to the fifth set.

Alcaraz's track record in five-setters is quite
amazing, I guess it is now something like 11
    won and 1 lost, right?

He played poorly almost all of the time. In the end he just did what was necessary to win. Bunt the ball back. Z was even worse.

Oh yeah. You are the expert and have seen *one*
match where Iga played and based on that alone, you
now worship her and even declare her to be the
    "mental GOAT". Hahah!

There is very little credibility in your assesments,
    whether political or tennis-related.

Dude... Just fuck off. Stop being ridiculous! :-)

We don't need any Swedes here in Finland. You
already fucked up your own country with immigration
and other stupidity and now your agenda is to
destroy Finland, too. But we won't let it happen!

    Carlos:
“Well, I know that when I'm playing a fifth set you have to give
everything and you have to give your heart. I mean, in those moments,
it's where the top players give their best tennis.
So as I said many times, I wanted to be one of the best tennis players
in the world, so I have to give an extra in those moments in the fifth
set, I have to show the opponent that I am fresh, I'm like we are
playing the first game of the match.
So I think that works pretty well if the opponents see me that I'm
moving well, I'm hitting the good shots, I'm finding good solutions. And
of course, the mental strength play a great part on that moment.
So I think that's why I have good success in the fifth sets, and of
course you have to take that in the fifth set if you want to win the slams.”

Yes, particularly given he wasn't well enough to play any tune-ups and
imo clearly carrying an arm injury during the whole tournament. Scary
what he's going to do to the field when he has no injuries lol : )
