Alcaraz will end up as Sampras.

We will never know his true potential.
He doesn't have and won't have tier 1 rivals.

At times it feels he's more exquisite than Big 3 so he would have no trouble competing and regularly beating them and reaching their level (or more) if challenged, ie rising to the occasion, OTOH if you look at what's going on, he needed 5 sets to beat
non-slammer and clay is arguably his best surface?

He (we) are really unlucky in that sense. He will remain a mystery.

I think he and Sinner were both carrying injuries the whole tournament.
Carlos didn't play any tune-ups which is unusual for a guy who goes on
to win FO. I don't think the big 3 ever won a FO with no tune-ups?

At any rate it's a fantastic start to a career for Carlos. He's
averaging at least 1 slam win every year & had a yr-end No.1 already.

It's funny that Carlos' 1st FO final was far tougher than any of the 14
Nadal played, he was never pushed to a 5th set.

There's a good chance Carlos wins AO and becomes youngest ever career
slammer. He'll prob win Olympic gold this yr too on the clay.

He doesn't need a break from me nor I'm after him. Quite the contrary.

I am aware how much impressive is what he has done.

Surface slam at the age of 21.

Federer at 27, Agassi and Djokovic at 29, Nadal at 22. Connors and Wilander were older probably as well.

    So it's phenomenal.

But he will face same bias that e.g. Sampras or Serena faced.

Give him a break Skriptis, the kid just turned 21 and won every

He's a terrific player alright. But this match wasn't about tennis or
tennis skills at all. What is was about, maybe we'll know better later.
    Maybe not.

It was a dreadful affair. Matches like these should not be allowed to go
five sets. An ump should step in, stop the action and announce the
    winner. Maybe toss a coin.

I missed Iga the whole match.

Carlos is not at peak yet, still has a lot to learn strategically. His
natural instincts are great for his age. I could tell he was
compromised physically but he hid it well. The 3 sets he won were
routine regardless, 61 62 63. Also lost a set from 5-2 up. I can see
him smashing some easy slam finals in next few yrs like 61 60 61 type : )

Zverev seems to be a weirdo.

If he wasn't trying to unsettle Alcaraz, why did he do all that nonsense with line calls, objections and not simply accepting it?

Not moving to the next point is bad even for players who sometimes use anger and frustration after questionable calls to play better. But even for them, it's a bad option. E.g. even Djokovic gets 50% from it, at best.

For someone like Zverev, who is not the strongest mental player, who hasn't won a slam, and who actually played well enough and didn't need such distractions, wasting time and focus on line calls is an absolute idiocy.

I wonder why can't he realize that all of his dedication to training, fitness and nutritional regimes etc are flushed down the toilet if he can't just make a simple commitment to the most basic mental part of the game during the matches.

Do not shoot your own leg basically.
It doesn't seem so difficult for me.

I guess it's why Lendl left?

Give that a break. Many great sporting matches or events have happened
when one or both players/teams weren't at their best. We saw many high
quality points and shots today. Perhaps you were watching a different
