I think very similar to 2019.

The huge cost of a very important win drained the strength and motivation from both winner and loser. USO came too quickly for both of them.

Both Federer and Djokovic lost early in USO 2019, now same with Djokovic and Alcaraz.

    Emotionally overloaded.

Djokovic: FO injury, stress, concerns, surgery, reaching Wimbledon final on one leg, Olympics which tormented him for years and then complete fulfilment, absolute happiness and joy.

Alcaraz: pre FO injury, FO title, Wim title, ecstasy of FO-Wim double, immense heights followed by crushing loss in Olympics final, realising next chance is so far away, 4 years.

Djokovic has just recovered from gold fever and is weak, Alcaraz is just entering acute phase and is in pain. Has to learn to put it aside.

No, you should expect to see more bad days for him as he is getting older and celebrate the days that he isn't having bad days thinking he played superior peak tennis :)

Bad days are already here, he isn't winning ATP 1000s at the rate he did at his peak.

But USO letdown after arduous summer and emotional letdown?

    Has happened before.

2014, lost to Nishikori after becoming a father, he had a son.

2017, skipped USO altogether after having a daughter.

2019, lost early to *post-peak* Wawrinka, following Wim 2019 surreal experience.

2023, similar as 2019. And btw Popyrin just won Montreal, that counts as no bigger loss than Nishikori in 2014 imo.

His daughter turned 7 yesterday (Monday, 02.09.2024) and he was with her for her first day at school coinciding with her birthday.

Some even suggest he tanked USO to be with her on that day.

Let's enjoy it. The pursuit of 25 is so sweet, even if it's slow, or slower than fans would have liked.
