You beat your opponent in the AO final to win a slam then you come next time to lose 6-0 6-1 to the same opponent in the SF of IW.Madison Keys -- ----Android NewsGroup Reader----https://piaohong.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/usenet/index.html

Why would that "hurt", you can thank your lucky stars that you won a slam, obviously played one of the best matches of your life and your opponent who is clearly a league above has surely underperformed at least a bit so you won a slam.

Their hard court h2h is now 4-1.
Sabalenka winning in this matchup is normal.

I would say Sabalenka is now again hurt, being reminded to whom she actually lost slam final.

Yes Sabalenka should be feeling crap for losing AO final. Keys played
crap and looked like she didn't care, disrespectful to fans and the game.

They should change the prize money and points structure in tennis to incentivize effort. Give more $ and points if you win a set, even extra
if you win at least 8 games. Eg You get rewarded more for losing 64 64
than 60 61. A lot of players just tank if they think they can’t win on
the day. The players who have a go should be rewarded. Good for fans
too. Keys gets same money/points whether she loses 60 60 or 67 76 76 - that’s not right. Iga and Keys got the same $ and points today. That's
not right and can be fixed.

I think so. Sure now and again you can play hard and still lose 61 61 -
like Dimitrov v Alcaraz the other day - but you still get your 'base'
points for reaching that round so that's the main reward. Now if you
can make the score competitive there should be some reward for that
extra exertion. We all could see Key's mind was elsewhere and she was an
error machine, so once she concluded she was unlikely to win she checked
out mentally and was out in 51 minutes. Now if there was extra points
and some more cash on the line just for extending the match that's a
good thing. It won't work in every case, but I think a lot of players
would keep fighting for as many games as possible if they could slightly improve their ranking, even if they felt defeat was certain.

The current system offers too many incentives to bail out eg you lose no
money or points as a loss is a loss, you reduce risk of injury or making
an injury worse for no gain if you lose anyway etc.

If Draper loses to Alcaraz tomorrow in semis he gets 355k and 400 points
    if it's 60 60 or 76 67 76. How about 50k and 50 bonus points if he wins
at least 8 games eg 64 64 loss, and 100k if he wins 1 set and 100 bonus
pts? Sounds good to me as it incentivizes effort to keep battling and
hoping, you can have a good loss v bad loss.

Keys never lost this badly to Sabalenka. Three of their six matches were three sets. Also Keys bageled her in one match. So yesterday was about how bad she was and if you follow her you will know that she has been talking about how she improved a lot
and believes she can do real damage. I believe the way she lost yesterday simply erased lots of her confidence that was gained by years of hard work.Wondering if there is a press conference after this loss. Let me check.

An expected letdown after fulfilling her career goal of winning a slam.

What did you expect, she was about to start dominating tennis following her first slam win at the age of 29 or 30?

Ivanišević effectively retired after that Wimbledon 2001 and hadn't even turn 30 at the time he won it, he was 29.

And he was a guy with solid history of being top 10, #2, multiple finals etc much better than Keys in women's game.

Why do you always go for extremes when trying to discuss something?

Extremes prove a point. I prove my points.

No one said about dominating, and as you see there is huge difference between dominating and losing 6-0 and 6-1.

I don't think there's much difference in losing and losing badly?

In my view, especially with best of 3, best of 3 is a quick format, sometimes you can wrap up things pretty fast, doesn't mean much really.

Nadal crushed Soderling 6-0 6-1 or 6-1 6-0 in Rome 2009, but it was a very competitive match, as proven by their FO encounter few weeks later. Score doesn't tell it.

Let's use another example, with best of 5, Nadal crushed Djokovic in 2020 FO final, and the score was very flattering to him, however in my opinion, Djokovic was like 2% away from being equal in the match and like 5% from utterly dominating it.

Otoh they had very similar score in FO 2008 semis, but Djokovic had no chance in that one.

    Point being, score isn't everything.

Keys simply didn't show up against Sabalenka the other day, score doesn't matter, but it's a tune up so who cares, my point about her dominating the game was more of a question, do you seriously expect her to *get better*, get more focused, more
dedicated, more successful against top girls (Sabalenka, Swiatek, Gauff etc) now that she won a slam at the age of 29, 30 or whatever?

You expect her to build on that AO success?

    Why?

Flavia Pennetta retired immediately after USO 2015 which she won, that's the state of the mind of players in their situations.

Everyone has bad days on the tennis court but losing that badly in the semi-finals of such a major event?!?. Ouch! Hopefully Keys will
straighten things out by Miami; I always have thought she was pretty
    classy.

This was just so bad it's hard to find an explanation. So many errors,
over in 51 minutes. Sabalenka was only average herself so pretty
damning. I don't mind blow outs if 1 player is playing lights out,
that's a great spectacle. This was just a quick error ridden, half
hearted performance. Not professional at all. Maybe if there was some
trauma going on in her personal life I could understand?

Flavia Pennetta retired immediately after USO 2015 which she won, that's the state of the mind of players in their situations.

Also Bartoli is another that comes to mind, won Wimbledon and soon
retired, by USO I think? I thought that was very odd at the time.

Wondering if there is a press conference after this loss. Let me
      check.

Everyone has bad days on the tennis court but losing that badly in the
semi-finals of such a major event?!?. Ouch! Hopefully Keys will
straighten things out by Miami; I always have thought she was pretty
    classy.

This was just so bad it's hard to find an explanation.  So many errors,
over in 51 minutes.  Sabalenka was only average herself so pretty
damning.  I don't mind blow outs if 1 player is playing lights out,
that's a great spectacle.  This was just a quick error ridden, half
hearted performance.  Not professional at all.  Maybe if there was some trauma going on in her personal life I could understand?

    I was wondering the same.
