Cliff Joyner

I'm "Old School". In this context, it means that I normally choose to not bad-rap another player but I'm eagerly making an exception in the case of Cliff Joyner. I had been retired for more than 20 years from pool hustling when I ran into Cliff around
1987 at The Brass Tap in Raleigh, NC. I mopped the floor with him on several occasions when we played 9 ball and it was even worse when we played one pocket. He had very little ability, zero character and even less class. He still owes me money, but I
think I'm on a long list of people who share that status. It shocks me that he somehow attained status as a competent one pocket player. I recently saw a shocking article claiming that "Patch Eye" allegedly turned him loose. I knew "Patch Eye" as Henry
Barnett in Philly before he changed his name to Jaffar Basheer. That man had character, class, and ability. It's hard for me to believe that he would have anything positive to say about Cliff. I don't know if Cliff is still alive; if he is, I'm sure
there are an abundance of wanted posters in pool rooms throughout the land. Cliff, if you're dead, rest in peace. If you're still alive, I hope you find peace even though I doubt that you deserve it. Howard Fierman ---- formerly known as "Mickey Mouse".
