I've had a media player for quite some time where I can plug in SD
cards, hard drives, etc with a connection to my HDTV so I can play back whatever I input, but I wonder if there's a device that's cheap and
works in reverse- recording whatever I want from the TV to an SD card or
HD? Not talking TiVO, etc, this is a discrete device independent of any
paid services.
Hi Sam,
services.
If you're talking about recording over-the-air broadcasts or cable TV,
there are many "TV Tuners" on the market. Some of the best are made by Hauppauge (www.hauppauge.com). I have the HVR-2250 dual tuner card in my computer, but they have external tuners, and cable compatible tuners as
well.
I use a free program called NextPVR (www.nextpvr.com) with a subscription
to Schedules Direct TV listings (www.schedulesdirect.org) to select and record my TV shows.
You can also look at the HD Home Run (www.silicondust.com).
There are others as well, these are just the more popular ones I am aware
of.
