• Cometary fragments airburst led to Hopewell decline.

From Horace LaBadie@21:1/5 to All on Sun Feb 6 16:08:30 2022
New analysis of remains of Hopewell culture sites strongly indicates
that the sudden decline of the ancestral Native American culture in the
Ohio Valley was initiated by the atmospheric explosion of a cometary
fragment above the area approximately 1600 years Before Present. Burning
of wooden posts in their holes and melting of soil all show that
temperatures of almost blast furnace intensity were attained suddenly
over a wide area. An earthwork constructed after the charring event was
mapped in the 1830s, revealing a comet-shapped structure, perhaps
memorializing the disaster. Native American legends also speak of a time
when the Sun fell to Earth.
