• Bluetooth IC Overheats

From John Keiser@21:1/5 to All on Sun Dec 8 23:57:08 2024
I buy lots of stuff from AliExpress or Temu. Some doesn't work and I
get a prompt refund. Sometimes I can fix the device - i.e., cold solder
    joint.
I recently bought a simple Bluetooth receiver [to play Spotify on an
old stereo] using a common IC: PNSA15E7E.
The red lights stay on, never gets to pairing mode. I tried resetting
    but no joy.
    Got my refund.
    Opened the case.
Multilayer board, very, very few components.
IC runs extremely hot to the touch. Ouch level.
    Resoldering didn't help.
My WAG is maybe a bridged trace in a hidden layer or just a bad IC?
Out of curiosity, any better guesses?

Bad IC, probably on its second life having been recycled from somewhere
else, and didn't enjoy being reborn....

    Power supply backwards?

Runs off of a USB port so unlikely to be miswired.
    Thanks.
