not surprised. Why are you denying the information
provided by Bolaji Aluko? It was not his personal
information and he only reported it as it was cited in
the George Washington University Law School website.
Why don't you check out that website and see what it
says about JDs? Are you afraid you would be
disappointed in your false ego? Do you think that you
can simply run away from this true fact by attacking
Aluko's personality? Your lousy trick will not work
here.
Yes, the name "Juris Doctor" may be confusing,
but it is a known fact that it never translates into a
"doctorate" degree. Academic professors have always
made it a point to affirm the crucial difference
between a lesser law degree and the quite rigorous
academic demands of a doctorate. JDs are addressed as
"Esq" or as "Attorney." Almost 90% of the US congress
are JDs, but they all know that to even attempt to
address themselves as "drs" will incure a heavy amount
of opprobrium from their professional colleagues and
the wider academic community. They dont.
Charles, there are simple facts that I will like
to point out again. A JD does not in any shape of form
entitle you to a "doctorate." You are being quite
dishonest if you address yourself as such, even if you
go to Nigeria. The last time you were in Nigeria, you
made it a point that the people you meet view and
address you as a "dr." You are impersonating what you
are not, and the guilt remains with you in the back of
your head as a constant reminder. Charles Maduka, you
are not a "dr," and you should not dubiously address
yourself as such. You cannot make your own rules and
live by it alone. If you want to be considered as a
"Dr," then go and acquires a "doctorate."
But if you chose to continue in your hidden
fallacy, then all we can do is to "laugh" at you in
silence, and to let you make a fool of yourself
anytime you address yourself as "dr." As for Ken
Okorie, he already knows that he does not have a
"doctorate" degree, he cannot address himself as a
"Dr," no matter how hard he tries to lie,cheat,
deceive, and conflate issues. I will simply leave him
to dwell in his self-imposed agony. If he wants to be
taken seriously, he should go back to school and get
an LL.D, or perhaps a "Ph.D" in Sacred Literature

I hold a Juris Doctor (JD) from Texas. I do agree
that Igbo people are more
eager to append a title by their name including JD
or Dr. May be it is our
culture or tradition, whichever one applies. Ken
Okorie may answer this
question, tradition or culture. I must caution you
that Aluko is not an
authority on this issue and he can never be.

In 1984, one Ojay Grace, another JD in Houston
petitioned the Attorney
General of Texas on the issue for an opinion. I

will

try to secure a copy of
that opinion for you. I am sure Ojay saved it.
According to the then
Attorney General, Mattox, JD is equivalent to Ph.D
and any JD holder may
append the Dr. to his or her name. Unfortunately,
such is not the practice
among Americans and hence anyone that does so in
America will get queries
like, "what kind of medicine do you practice?"

If you believe that an American JD is the same as

a

Masters Degree, you need
to read one. May be you don't know the difference
between a JD and a
Nigerian barrister. There is a world of difference
and I can not begin to
educate you on that.

There are some that make conscious efforts to

demand

that they be addressed
as Dr. We should be mindful of anybody who will

not

attend or answer to a
call because they are not addressed the way they
want to be addressed. Try
to address a member of Nigerian House without

using

the word Honorable or a
Governor without the Excellency. This one cuts
across ethnic boundaries. The
paid aides will make sure you pay for such miscue.

I hope I am not sensing a Ph.D in you. Call me
whatever you want, I will
answer you and do my best. Dr. will not get you a
penny more. A JD calling
himself a Dr. is better than the one procured
through correspondence. After
all, is the name not Juris Doctor? Why has the
Education Department not
changed the name? Why have the Universities
continued to use it knowing that
people get confused about it? That was what

prompted

Ojay Grace to petition
the Texas Attorney General in 1984. My friend
lawyers are a hated bunch and
that program will not be changed from what it is
because of you and Aluko.

law schools in the United States will revoke a

JD's

certificate if he is caught impersonating

"doctorate" in law. I know that the criminal

some low-life Nigerian lawyers will not allow

Yoruba

lawyer or any other ethnic group in Nigeria (at

that I know) who is a JD but also passes himself

as a "dr." Only some dubious Igbo 419ers do so.

I find it hard to believe that some Igbos like

O' Kehie (Chidindu) would not be content with

the

truth, but instead, prefer to dwell in the world
