  • Making Democracy Real-Wildly Expensive,Dubiously Effective Political Ad

From ltlee1@21:1/5 to All on Wed Oct 16 00:14:29 2024
"Inside Our Wildly Expensive, Dubiously Effective Political Ad Machine Campaigns spend billions on ads that change outcomes by a few points, if
at all. Here’s where the money goes—and how it drives our political parties.
    ..
It’s estimated that this election cycle will burn through $10.7 billion
on ads—a new record for our country and, quite likely, the world. For comparison, that’s on par with Montana’s total state spending for the fiscal year 2023.

When campaigns ask you for money, they typically list a variety of
expenses. Harris, in that ad she cut on July 19, mentioned hiring
organizers and staff and opening field offices. She didn’t say a word
about advertising, but the lion’s share of your money, north of 60 cents
on the dollar, will go to making and placing ads, primarily video spots,
which are the real big-ticket item within the industry. In a literal
sense, then, these videos are the main grist of all that data and cash
    that drive modern American politics."

Spend billions on ads to change outcomes by a few points if at all means
tight election and voters with strongly held ideas concerning policies.

Are close races election cycle after election cycle mean better
    democracy ?

Judging from America's decades of democratic discontent/disappointment, (https://www.theamericanconservative.com/the-non-entity-who-would-be-president/)
and American decline during the past decades, close races election cycle
after election in a two party system do not appear to make America
    great.

Writers who examined the US electoral democracy had came up with
variElection is less about "we the people". More about the candidates.
vaiour descriptions. One of them is per James Bovard is Reverse Slave
    Auction.

"Elections are reverse slave auctions in that people are permitted a
nominal voice in choosing who will exercise ownership rights over them.
But once the winner is sworn into office, the candidate's campaign
promises do nothing to curb his power. The moment the bidding ends and a
winner is declared, the illusion that the slaves are running the show vanishes." (ATTENTION DEFICIT DEMOCRACY)

    Um, no.

I don't bother responding to most of the BS posted here, but oh yeah, that's what it is.

Results from poll after poll since 2010 were clear. The US government
did not have the consent of the people. Why can't the US government

    Answer: ZERO.

In addition, if the surveys were improperly done, other organizations
would jump in and prove the survey results wrong. And US democracy would

Democracy means people rule; not people vote. Ritualistic voting once

This thread is about voting per se is not democracy. Ritualistic voting
is not democracy. Voting, in contrast, is a show about the candidates,
not necessarily related to the people. More money spent will definitely
lead more news coverage and subsequently confers a sense of excitement
and the feeling that US democracy is real. Nevertheless, Democracy is
about People Rule, not People Vote. Ruling is a continuous process day
after day. Not once every few years.

If you or anyone have doubt on the surveys results indicating the
elected government did not have the consent, please inform.
