To be fair, China did not get 91% trust all the time. But then the issue is not absolute performance but relative.
The puzzle over the years is that why a self proclaimed model of democracy could not earn the trust of its people.

To the extent that Americans are not an ungratious bunch and they fail to appreciate how government officials have been
responding to their needs and desires and working selflessly all the time.

This leaves only one conclusion, the US and perhaps the West get democracy wrong.

Well, the problem is that U.S. political leaders are not committed to work selflessly all the time. Because they don't have
to and/or they still don't know that they have to.

In some sense, democracy is a matter of the public square. But REAL, not theoretical, democracy for a large country is
inevitably, a long term multi-generational and non-linear process. This is also how Francis Fukuyama's "The End of History"
is true. After a country have experienced multiple failure-rebuilding cycles, it would invariably getting closer and closer to
true democracy. This view also makes history a public square over time and space. The test of time is also a test of
democracy.

All other things equal, the older a nation/people and the larger a nation/people, it is inherently more democratic.
Comparing China and the US, the latter has ritualistic election. But its leaders don't know and don't necessarily committed
themselves to work selflessly all the time.
