An odd opinion piece raising the wrong question.
To be sure, the writer lays out the advantage of European nations over Russia.

"The rest of Europe, whose resources far exceed Ukraine’s, is in an even stronger position. Compare Europe and Russia on any metric typically used for gauging power, and Europe proves vastly superior. Take their gross domestic products. Last year the
European Union’s was $16.6 trillion, and Russia’s was $2.2 trillion. That means the European Union, even without Britain, has an economy more than seven times as large as Russia’s.

What about technology, another component critical to contemporary warfare?

But the question I ask is these:
Does the writer know Russia like other European nations?
Would rich Western European really like to fight a COLD WAR, not 2.0, but the 1.0 again? Such that the US could win the COLD WAR again?
And while Russia is contemplating whether to nuke European or not?

For those who don't know Russia's doctrine on the use of nuclear weapons, Dmitry Medvedev is restating the position.

"Imagine if the.. offensive, which is backed by NATO, was a success and they tore off a part of our land then we would
be forced to use a nuclear weapon according to the rules of a decree from the president of Russia.

"There would simply be no other option. So our enemies should pray for our warriors' (success). They are making sure
that a global nuclear fire is not ignited," he said.

Medvedev, who has cast himself as one of Moscow's most hawkish voices, appeared to be referring to part of Russia's
nuclear doctrine which sets out that nuclear weapons can be used in response to aggression against Russia carried out
using conventional weapons which threatens the existence of the Russian state."

Make no mistake, if come to crunch, Russia would certainly use nuke. There is already a precedent case used by US, it can happen too. Russia had spoken upfront on that last year.
