President of Colombia Gustavo Petro claimed yesterday that
cocaine is no worse than whiskey. He added that the illegal
drug trade could be easily dismantled if cocaine were
legalized worldwide. The president made the controversial
statements during a Council of Ministers meeting on illicit
economies and anti-drug policies that was broadcast on
    Colombia’s national television.

    . . .

Ah ! Now we understand ! It wasn't threat of sanctions
that prompted Petro to re-patriate his errant citizens.
Instead Trump's people found some big bags of Hunters'
stash in the WH and sent that to Petro :-)

As for overt legalization ... umm ... in practice it
hasn't worked out so well. Sounds great in THEORY, but
on-the-ground, real humans ...... need to be a few
    constraints - sorry.

Besides, the cartels will just find OTHER stuff
to deal in - little girls, heavy arms, plutonium,
    murder-4-hire, they'll find something.

Colombians chew coca leaves without society collapsing. What you
are complaining is South American Indian can self medicate but
    Americans can not.

I control my cocaine consumption as easily as my whiskey consumption.

such a success so far, right?

Well you do but many people cannot stop so easily
without help but most young drug users do eventually stop
using drugs3. Unfortunately the current maladministration
has other priorities for the money i.e. giving the
immensely wealthy like Elon Musk tax breaks.

I on the other hand, both like most of the effects
of my medical cannabis and would be please to buy coca
leaves and make tea which once was legal. The Alto Plano
users of coca chew the leaves with an alkaline substance
I believe. This because of the route of administration
per orum rather than sniffing cocaine powder is far
safer but perhaps less attractive to our urban population.

    bliss
