LAKEWOOD, CA – Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department believe a serial rapist attacked at least five women in the South Bay-area and may have more victims, who have yet to come forward. Deanthony Govan, a 25-year-old Lakewood
resident, is accused in a series of sexual assaults in the Lakewood area from September 3, 2017 to December 30, 2018. The five alleged victims are women ranging from 19- to 39-years-old, authorities said.

Govan was arrested Jan. 24 and is currently being held on $7 million bail for alleged sexual assault, according to LASD.

"Anyone who was victimized by the suspect is urged to come forward," the press release said.

A Lakewood Sheriff's deputy was on patrol on Jan. 24 when he recognized Govan, who was wanted for multiple crimes, the sheriff's department said. Govan was walking in an apartment complex near the 4900 block of Castana Avenue in Lakewood when the deputy
detained and arrested him. He was booked at the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station for a series of sexual assaults and additional other charges, authorities said.

Norwalk District Attorney’s Office filed fifteen felony counts against the suspect on Jan. 28, 2019. They include: four counts of false imprisonment, four counts of oral copulation, four counts of rape, two counts of robbery and one county of assault
    with a deadly weapon.

"The Special Victims Bureau believes there may be additional victims in this case," the press release said. "Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau."
