• Great point by Sam Harris: we don't need term "atheist"

Just as we don't need a term to describe someone who doesn't believe in astrology or "chakras" or unicorns or leprechauns.

Sorry, Dr. Harris, "your idea is dumb":

No, it's an excellent idea. I *am* an atheist, as others insist on calling it, but I don't need to word to describe my thoughts.

The word "atheist" is part of the English lexicon; it is *not* going to disappear.
No one suggested it's going to disappear. It still isn't needed and theistic christers are stupid (additionally stupid) for thinking they need it.

right , it'll just never be used ,
just like the tahltan language ,
it's disappearing because no one uses it

Languages, and their words, evolve.  Even if the word "atheist" stops being used, the Merriam-Webster dictionary will simply list it as being "obsolete" or
    "archaic".
Whether the word exists and is in use or not, it is an unnecessary word. I don't
believe in the tooth fairy or alchemy, and no word is needed to describe that absence of belief.

Nonetheless, most human beings hold to the existence of immaterial

    the label of "not whatever".

Goals. I personally believe in goals.

You can say that the word is unnecessary, but as long as it persists in writing and/or spoken speech, it will continue to be listed in the
    various dictionaries.

It's necessary. Democrats wouldn't have any way to insult you otherwise.
