Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass rebuffed an offer by the FDNY to help try to contain the area’s deadly fires — even though California officials have
said they don’t have enough firefighters themselves, The Post has learned.

New York City fire Commissioner Robert Tucker made the helpful overture to
the embattled Bass in recent days, as five blazes rage around Los Angeles
and its suburbs, killing at least 10 people and destroying thousands of
homes and businesses, sources said Friday.

JetBlue even offered to pay for the city smoke-eaters’ flights across the country from the Big Apple to Los Angeles, sources said.

But the offers apparently fell on deaf ears, as no orders have been issued
to send New York City crews out West, sources said.

Meanwhile, California Gov. Gavin Newsom accepted help from Mexico,
thanking its president, Claudia Shein, on Friday for the assist, while
extra firefighters from Colorado, New Mexico and Utah flocked to the state
    to help Thursday.

A source speculated that Bass may have balked at taking Bravest help
because fighting wildfires is “a whole different beast” that requires
special training, as opposed to putting out blazes in buildings, which is typical fare for the FDNY.

But the apparent refusal still stunned some department observers — given
how Los Angeles Fire Chief Anthony Marrone acknowledged Wednesday that his forces were fighting a losing battle when it came to enough staffing to
    thwart the blazes.

“LA County and all 29 fire departments in our county are not prepared for
this kind of widespread disaster,’’ Marrone said.

“There are not enough firefighters in LA County to address four separate
fires of this magnitude,” he said at a time there were four blazes raging.

“The LA County fire department was prepared for one or two major brush
fires, but not four, especially given these sustained winds and low humidities,” Marrone said.

The city also acknowledged in the middle of the week that it ran out of
water from its hydrants while fighting the horrific Palisades Fire that
day, thanks to reported mismanagement of its supply and operational
    issues.

Bass, who was in Ghana when the blazes erupted, has been blasted for
cutting funding to the fire department by $18 million months earlier.

It is incredibly SAD to watch our fellow citizens lose their homes,
livelihoods and memories with the California wildfires. (Let us not
forget those still suffering in the aftermath of the storm Helene either.) Perhaps it is time for folks to remember how important it is to
financially support, as tax payers and voters, our government
infrastructure systems – especially in times when they are NOT needed for
such disasters. How many voters were duped into voting for candidates
who supported causes that removed government funding for these critical agencies / programs? We now SEE THE RESULTS form these elected
politicians having given the funding to projects which were self serving
for their own ambitions – at the cost to we the taxpayer. It is time to
focus on the campaign funding for such candidates and hold the mega-donors
and celebrity supporters accountable in a court of law. After all, as
voters, we were sold a bill of goods for which the donors gave millions of dollars and social media support to candidates to implement these agendas
which provided us the results we now see today. Now we are the homeless
ones, is there a tent city for us? An Op-Ed needs to go to the Washington
Post asking for the mega-donors and celebrity endorsers to take financial responsibility for these results of what they promoted to the voting
public. And wait until insurance companies start filing bankruptcy -
hint: sue those who gave the millions to get these poor decision makers

If this is climate change, that they warn about, why was the fire
department budget cut? Why no water system and hydrant upgrades? The
price of electing incompetents because supposedly their heart is in the
    right place.

What? Tax payers support California enough. The democrat government there
needs to spend the money on things that actually matter which is it's
    citizens and not illegal immigrants.

This woman needs to resign. NYFD could relieve LA of some of their non
wildfire duties so they could redeploy LA trained firefighters. ??. It’s
not rocket science. Doing paramedic duties in NY isn’t any different than
doing it LA if you have GPS and the location of the hospitals.

They never resign because they are NEVER wrong. They only resign when
they are fully vested in full retirement salaries for life.

Incompetence and failure on so many levels… budget cuts, reservoir out of water, closing a dam to save a fish, dei being prioritized over everything
else in the fire department, mayor putting Ghana over her responsibilities
    to city, etc…
When you see firemen scooping water up with traffic cones because hydrants
are dry, might be time to reevaluate your priorities.

Ding-aling Mayor Bass tried to get $49 million more cut to the fire dept
on top of the $17 million one week before these fires started. CA is a
fire prone state, and the Democrats are taking money from fire dept and
giving billions to illegals. Stop voting Democrat CA.

Without equipment, what do they? Spit on the fire? I appreciate
the care and concern of New York, but I doubt their best efforts
    will help.

In a radiating alert, adjacent counties are sending firefighters
and equipment. Now nearer and farther counties are responding. And
over state borders to Nevada, Arizona, and Oregon. CalFire is acting.

How many states have a state fire department?

What exactly do Nevada's firefighters add that the NYFD couldn't? What
skills does it take to lift a shovel and throw dirt on a fire?

Sure walk twenty miles carrying a shovel and no radio.

Trucks, tankers, etc. Radios. Firetrucks have pumps and water tanks.

Exactly right. FDNY firefighters have no experience fighting wildfires.

And this is why the NY Post is a fucking worthless source. Marrone is *not* the chief of the Los Angeles (city) Fire Department. He is the chief of the *county*
    fire department.
