An Ohio mother of five violently lost her life at the hands of an active duty Ohio sheriff's deputy, who she had been dating for just over a year, the police confirmed.
Stow police were called to a home on Meadowlark Trail at 3:57 p.m. on Monday after reports of a possible suicide. Inside, they found a male and female who had been fatally shot, with investigators immediately flagging the incident as a murder-suicide.
Benjamin Asiedu, 43, who an active duty sheriff's deputy with Summit County living in Akron, reportedly shot and killed Latoia Philpott, 41, inside the home — though what led to the violent altercation remains unclear.

He then turned the gun on himself, killing himself after having shot her multiple times. The police reportedly received a call asking them to check on Philpott after they were unable to reach her. It was those family members who found the horrific
bloodbath inside the home.
Philpott was reportedly the mother of three adults and two youths, and Asiedu had one juvenile daughter. Surviving family members were reportedly assisted by Summit County Victim's Assistance and Summit County Children's services.
An investigation later revealed that Philpott had been shot multiple times by Asiedu, and her death was ruled a homicide. Asiedu's was ruled a suicide. The shooting occurred in Philpott's home.

Philpott's family released a statement about her death, writing, according to the Stow Police Department, "It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, daughter, and friend, Latoia Philpott. At this
time, we ask for privacy as we navigate this difficult loss and make arrangements. We are truly grateful for the love, support, and condolences we have already received from friends, family, community and local law enforcement during this incredibly
challenging time."
The department added, "The Stow Police Department extends our sincere condolences to the families of this heartbreaking tragedy." Stow, where the tragedy unfolded, is a northern suburb of Akron between that Ohio city and Cleveland to the northeast.
