Atlanta police have made an arrest in a case that rattled the community this Fourth of July. A 38-year-old man, Demitrus Davis, faces charges of murder, rape, sodomy, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony relating to the
death of a local grandmother. FOX5 Atlanta reports that Davis was taken into custody last Sunday after a lengthy investigation. The stabbing took place on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive NW, where 63-year-old Annette D. Santos was found dead from a stab
wound in the chest. Medics at the scene pronounced her dead.
The grandmother of thirteen, Annette Santos was discovered unresponsive at her home on the aforementioned drive on July 4, as noted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Having suffered what would be a fatal attack, officers responded to a call at 11:38 a.
m. to find the victim. A loved figure in the community, her loss left a void hard to fill, acknowledged through the warm remembrances shared in her obituary.
Known as "Angel" for her warm spirit, Santos was remembered for "her exceptional style and pizzazz, ability to do hair and makeup, her intelligence, strength and caring spirit." Her family's statements, obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution,
describe her as a pillar in the community, providing a caring hand to neighbors and acting as a bonus mom for those in need.
Details about a possible motive for the crime or the circumstances leading to Davis's arrest have not been released publicly. After being arraigned, Davis was denied bond and remains in custody at the Fulton County Jail.
