From the outset, Donald Trump has bungled our response to the
    coronavirus,
leaving America with the worst outbreak in the world with over 175,000
people dead, five million infected, and our economy reeling.

New York Times, 8/6/20: "one country stands alone, as the only
affluent nation to have suffered a severe, sustained outbreak for
    more
than four months: the United States."

Instead of listening to warnings from Vice President Biden and public
health experts, Trump praised the Chinese government's response and
mindlessly parroted their propaganda — failing to prepare America to deal
    with the virus.

Washington Post, 3/20/20: "Trump's insistence on the contrary seemed
to rest in his relationship with China's President Xi Jingping, whom
Trump believed was providing him with reliable information about how
the virus was spreading in China, despite reports from intelligence
agencies that Chinese officials were not being candid about the true
scale of the crisis." New York Times, 4/11/2020: "Throughout January,
as Mr. Trump repeatedly played down the seriousness of the virus and
focused on other issues, an array of figures inside his government —
from top White House advisers to experts deep in the cabinet
departments and intelligence agencies — identified the threat,
    sounded
alarms and made clear the need for aggressive action." POLITICO,
4/15/20: "Trump, however, echoed many of those same assurances
regarding China and its response to the virus throughout January and
February, as the unique coronavirus began to infiltrate countries
around the world. Just days before the U.S. recorded its first death
from Covid-19, Trump touted China's government for its transparency
and hard work to defeat the coronavirus that causes the illness."

As COVID-19 swept across our country, Trump bungled testing, leaving us
with persistent shortages and delays even now. And, Trump inexcusably
failed to get protective equipment to the heroes on the front lines of
this fight, opting to side with corporate lobbyists instead of heeding
Vice President Biden's call to fully invoke the Defense Production Act to mobilize our economy to fight the virus.

New York Times, 3/28/20: "As the deadly virus spread from China with
ferocity across the United States between late January and early
March, large-scale testing of people who might have been infected did
not happen — because of technical flaws, regulatory hurdles,
business-as-usual bureaucracies and lack of leadership at multiple
levels." New York Times, 7/6/20: "In recent weeks, as cases have
surged in many states, the demand for testing has soared, surpassing
capacity and creating a new testing crisis." Washington Post, 7/8/20:
"Health-care workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic
are encountering shortages of masks, gowns, face shields and gloves —
a frustrating recurrence of a struggle that haunted the first months
of the crisis." CNN, 7/14/20: "Trump administration's delayed use of
1950s law leads to critical supplies shortages"

As the crisis mounted, Trump's failure to effectively lead undercut our response to the pandemic at every turn and cost Americans their lives.

POLITICO, 3/7/20: "For six weeks behind the scenes, and now
increasingly in public, Trump has undermined his administration's own
efforts to fight the coronavirus outbreak — resisting attempts to
    plan
for worst-case scenarios, overturning a public-health plan upon
request from political allies and repeating only the warnings that he
chose to hear. Washington Post, 4/4/20: "It may never be known how
many thousands of deaths, or millions of infections, might have been
prevented with a response that was more coherent, urgent and
effective. But even now, there are many indications that the
administration's handling of the crisis had potentially devastating
consequences." NBC News, 3/14/20: "An examination of how the Trump
administration responded to the coronavirus outbreak that was first
documented in December reveals a story of missed opportunities,
mismanagement and a president who resisted the advice of experts
    urging a more aggressive response."

Even after months of abject failure on COVID-19, Trump still refuses to
take the threat seriously, repeatedly claiming that it will simply
"disappear" even as he and his allies attack public health officials and undermine the basic measures we need to control the virus.

POLITICO, 8/1/2020: "President Donald Trump publicly rebuked Dr.
Anthony Fauci on Saturday, forcefully rejecting the nation's top
infectious disease expert's testimony on why the U.S. has experienced
a renewed surge in coronavirus cases."

Kristopher Roberson has been sentenced to life in prison plus 15 years for the 2014 kidnapping and rape of a woman behind an Atlanta church.

According to a release from the Fulton County District Attorney's office, the victim was walking along Smith Street in Atlanta after leaving her aunt's house on August 8, 2014, when a gold Jeep pulled up alongside her. The convicted man, Kristopher
Roberson, jumped out with a pocket knife in his hand.

The DA's release said Roberson forced the victim into the Jeep and drove to Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church, which is also along Smith Street. He parked his vehicle in a parking lot in the rear of the church and ordered the victim to climb into the
    rear seat.

According to the District Attorney, Roberson proceeded to rape the victim while continuing to hold the knife in his hand.

Operation Southern Impact III: 17 children recovered, 82 arrested in child sex sting

The victim was able to unlock and escape the Jeep, and run away, according to the release. Roberson drove away in the Jeep.

After she ran off, the victim knocked on the door of a nearby home in an attempt to get help. A retired police officer who lived in the area heard the knocking and went outside to investigate.

The DA's release said the retired officer found the victim and called 911. A BOLO alert was issued for the Jeep, which was spotted by Atlanta Police a few blocks from the crime scene. Roberson was arrested.

A judge gave probation to a bus driver who admitted to rape. Now thousands want the judge removed.

After a sexual assault kit was performed on the victim, Roberson's DNA was discovered.

A Fulton County Superior Court Jury convicted Roberson on April 24 on one charge each of rape, aggravated sodomy, kidnapping, aggravated assault and false imprisonment.

Additionally, Roberson had been previously convicted of an aggravated assault with intent to rape in a Bibb County incident that occurred a few days prior to the Atlanta rape. Bibb County officials were able to use DNA collected from the Atlanta rape to
identify Roberson as the suspect in their case.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Henry Newkirk has since sentenced Roberson to a total of life in prison plus 15 years on the five counts for the Atlanta rape.

KENNER, La. β€” Kenner police have arrested a Slidell woman they believe may be connected to the death of Kansas City Telemundo correspondent Adan Manzano.

Manzano, who was in New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl, was found dead in his Kenner Comfort Inn hotel room two days ago.

"Upon the detective processing the hotel room, they discovered that a credit card was missing, the same credit card that was used to check into the hotel as well as his cell phone," Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley said.

Detectives reviewed hotel security footage, which showed Danette Colbert, 48, leaving Manzano's room early Wednesday morning. Police located Colbert in New Orleans and arrested her Thursday night, finding Manzano's credit card and cellphone during a
search of her home. Investigators say the card had been used at several stores in the city.

"It's important to note that Miss Colbert's criminal history does include two incidents where she drugged a victim and stole his access device cards and things of that nature," Conley said.

Court records show Colbert has been arrested in New Orleans at least six times over the past 12 years for crimes including theft, bank fraud and second-degree battery. She also has an arrest record in Jefferson Parish and Las Vegas.

Telemundo New Orleans News Director Mike Berenguer said he was supposed to meet Manzano for an interview at the Morial Convention Center, but he never arrived.

"He was a really good reporter,” Berenguer said. β€œI think he had a good future in this job, and this is, unfortunately, a thing that sometimes happens."

Colbert is now in Kenner custody, facing multiple charges, including bank fraud, computer fraud, and illegal transmission of monetary funds. Investigators say the charges could be upgraded pending the results of their investigation into Manzano's death.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office reports toxicology and other tests are underway to determine Manzano's cause of death, with no obvious signs of trauma.

Police say no drugs or contraband were found in Manzano's room.

The New Orleans Police Department confirms multiple investigations in the city dating back to 2012 and as recent as 2021 name Colbert as a suspect in simple robbery, theft and pickpocketing incidents.

We are told no drugs or contraband was found in Manzano’s hotel room.

Kenner Police urge anyone who may recognize Danette Colbert and has any information regarding her involvement in these crimes to call the Criminal Investigations Division at (504) 712-2222 or Crime Stoppers at (504) 822-1111.
