Roland Ball Jr., (left) and Xavion Porter (right) were both charged in the March 19, 2020 shooting death of 17-year-old Inandi Wyche. Her boyfriend, Terise Powe, was injured in the shooting.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man found guilty on Jan. 27 of murdering a Ribault High School cheerleader was sentenced to life in prison in Duval County court Friday.

Roland Ball, 25, shot and killed 17-year-old Inandi Wyche in March 2020 while she was with her boyfriend, Jacksonville rapper Kshordy, whose real name is Terise Powe.

Xavion Porter, 20, was also arrested in connection to the deadly shooting. He is charged with conspiracy to commit murder and turned himself in on a warrant for his arrest, according to his arrest report. He was 16 at the time the shooting happened.

On Jan. 27, it took a jury an hour and six minutes to reach a verdict for Ball, as he was found guilty on nine charges:

    First-degree murder
    Attempted first-degree murder (five counts)
Shooting or throwing deadly missiles (two counts)
Tampering with or harassing a witness, victim or informant
    Here's a breakdown of Ball's sentence:

First-degree murder - Life in prison without possibility of parole
    Attempted first-degree murder - 40 years
Shooting or throwing deadly missiles - 15 years
    Attempted first-degree murder - 40 years
    Attempted first-degree murder - 40 years
    Attempted first-degree murder - 40 years
    Attempted first-degree murder - 40 years
Shooting or throwing deadly missiles - 15 years
Tampering with or harassing a witness, victim or informant - 1,473 days
All counts will run concurrently. The judge gave him credit for time served of 1,473 days.

The judge said she will rule on a motion for a new trial by the end of next week.

    What happened?
On March 19, 2020, a couple of weeks after he turned 19, Powe was on a date with Inandi. She was driving him home when a gray vehicle pulled up in front of Inandi's car in the 4700 block of Portsmouth Avenue in Jacksonville around 7 p.m.

Two males, including Ball, opened fire on the car, according to police.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office then were called out to the scene for a report of gunfire. When they arrived, Inandi was pronounced dead at the scene, while Powe was found injured inside of the vehicle. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was
    treated and released.

Police said the shooting was gang-related and was in retaliation for another deadly shooting that occurred about a half-mile away, two days before Inandi was shot and killed.

According to reports, Ball and Porter believed Powe was responsible and sought revenge.

As for Porter, court records show he has pleaded not guilty to the conspiracy to commit murder charge and that he will have his next pre-trial hearing on Feb. 26 at 9 a.m.

    Victim impact statements
The following victim impact statements were read during Ball's sentencing.

    Monique Wyche, Inandi's mother said:

"Nandi was loved by everyone she touched: her family, her teachers, her principal. Messages of her grace still find their way to me. She had a way with people, a unique, contagious vibrancy. She was cruelly taken from us. Many young people who crossed
paths with Nandi shared she was the array of hope and inspiration. Her life was extraordinary."

Renae Turnvull, one of Inandi's teachers said:

"I adored her so much. She made the days easier at Ribault. She was a cheerleader and a volleyball player and a dance diva. She was that girl. She was so kind, she led with kindness. I love my girl, I miss her with all my heart, but heaven got brighter.
    She's still with us."

Helen Wilson, one of Inandi's grandmothers:

"The love you have for a grandchild is so different. I have another granddaughter. And then after I held Nandi, she took my heart. My heart is in two. My heart will never be the same... I will never be the same, our family will never be the same on
holidays and birthdays. When you looked into her eyes, it was like a light. Her eyes would just sparkle. She had love for everybody. My life will never be the same."

Ball’s defense attorney said Ball has maintained his innocence since his arrest. Ball’s sister, Viola Greaves, spoke in support of her brother.

“Lamar, your family loves you and we will fight until the… until no more," she said.

Ball himself addressed the court, saying he’s innocent.

“Your honor, there’s really nothing to say," Ball said. "I grieve with the family and I have a family that grieves for me. An innocent man was sentenced. I don’t have nothing to say.”
