A West Virginia man has been convicted of raping an East Pennsboro Township woman at gunpoint.
A Cumberland County jury found Robert E. Jackson Jr., 49, or Ranson, guilty of charges that include rape and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion on Thursday.
Jackson's case went to trial on Monday, and according to testimony, the Oct. 31, 2014 incident occurred like this:
The victim was getting ready to go out with friends when Jackson, who was brandishing a gun, forced his way into her home. He struck her, then dragged her by her hair to a bedroom where he raped her at gunpoint.
"I was begging for my life," the victim testified.
Assistant District Attorney Erin Bloxham told the jury this was, "a moment of fear that drags out into an experience that completely changes a woman's life and leaves her terrified."
But she said investigators were able to track Jackson through cellphone pings from that day leading from his hometown in West Virginia to Cumberland County and back.
And DNA evidence collected from the rape kit also linked Jackson to the crime, Bloxham said.
In addition to charges of rape and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, Jackson was also found guilty of burglary, sexual assault, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm, criminal trespass, unlawful restraint, terroristic threats and simple
assault. Two counts if kidnapping were dismissed.
Jackson is scheduled for sentencing on March 29.
