A rapist was sentenced to 65 years to life in prison Tuesday, but not before using his final moments in the courtroom to once again terrorize his already shaken victim.
“I will be free,” sex fiend Darrel Kinard hissed, grinning and licking his lips after Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Vincent DelGiudice said it was his “earnest hope” that the predator was “never again free from a cage.”
Moments later, the 31-year-old ripped up the century-long order of protection DelGiudice issued on behalf of Kinard’s 64-year-old victim, sending her into hysterics.
The Bronx man repeatedly raped the woman in her own home in 2015, after offering to help her carry a plant into her apartment. He then locked the door and sexually brutalized her in the living room and the bedroom before smashing down her bathroom door
after she managed to lock herself inside.
Throughout Tuesday’s proceeding, the monster made multiple attempts to turn and leer at his victim, as well as trying to goad court officers into a fight when they barked at him to turn around.
“You gonna knock me out?” the brute smirked at one of the many court officers standing by, and even went so far as to taunt another, saying: “Beat the s–t out of me now, please?”
Defense attorney Mitchell Salaway inched away as Kinard’s jabs continued, as the perv has a history of spitting at court staff during proceedings, according to law enforcment sources.
Despite the defendant’s outbursts and chilling smiles throughout the sentencing, his victim maintained in her impact statement she would continue “speaking out for women” and other survivors.
“I am happy that, although I had to live through this ordeal, it was someone with my strength,” prosecutor Deborah Cohen read on the woman’s behalf. “I’m happy it was not a young child, or an older woman.”
“This man threatened to take my very life,” Cohen continued. “He embarrassed me by making me bathe in front of him afterward, he made me wash the semen-stained sheets. But I shall overcome, and he is not worthy to lay eyes on me ever again.”
‘My heart and soul have been left deeply broken and traumatized by this event,” the prosecutor continued to read before asking for the maximum. “I truly feel that if he ever walks the streets again, other women are in danger.”
DelGiudice agreed, lashing into the man he called a “vicious, depraved predator.”
“I can’t put [the plaintiff] in the position she was before you attacked her,” the jurist scowled at Kinard, who responded by yet again licking his lips. “Hopefully this sentence will give her peace, with the knowledge you will never able to hurt
another woman in your life.”
Kinard was convicted by a jury on two counts of predatory sexual assault and one count of second-degree burglary as a sexually motivated felony in March. Given a 2010 conviction for another predatory sex assault, he faced a mandatory life sentence
Tuesday.
Acting Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez in a statement called Kinard “a danger to society,” and lauded the sentence.
