CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Charlotte postal worker and another person
have been sentenced to prison for a scheme involving stolen checks worth
more than $24 million, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Western
District of North Carolina Dena J. King.

Nakedra Shannon and Desiray Carter, both 30, have been sentenced to 60
months and 54 months in prison followed by two years of supervised
release.

A third suspect, Donell Gardner, 28, also of Charlotte, was sentenced to
54 months in prison and three years of supervised release on July 18,
2024.

Authorities said the two suspects previously pleaded guilty to one count
of conspiracy to commit financial institution fraud and theft of
government property. They were also ordered to pay more than $113,000 in restitution, jointly and severally.

According to court records, from March 2021 to July 2023, Shannon was
employed by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) as a mail processing clerk at a distribution center in Charlotte.

As Shannon previously admitted in court, from April to July 2023, she
conspired with Gardner and Carter to steal incoming and outgoing checks
from the U.S. mail, which Gardner and Carter then sold to other
individuals, including using the Telegram channel OG Glass House.

The group stole checks totaling more than $24 million, which includes over
$12 million in stolen checks that were posted for sale on the Telegram
channel OG Glass House, and more than $8 million in stolen U.S. Treasury checks, court officials said.
