Hamilton County (WTVC) — Hamilton County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man in a 2006 rape case after his DNA was matched to the crime.
Orlando Evans was arrested in Atlanta on Wednesday and brought back to Hamilton County.
According to the police report, on November 30, 2006 3 people broke into a home on Zinnia Street. The homeowner told police the suspects had their faces covered, were armed and demanded money.
One of the suspects took a woman to another part of the house. She told police he pushed her to the floor, demanded money, and hit her several times.
The suspect covered his head with a jacket and dragged the victim to the bathroom. He threatened her with a gun and said "I'll kill both of you, this is what the (expletive) I do." The suspect then raped her.
A rape test was done on the suspect. At the time of the crime, police couldn't identify any suspects.
In 2013, a match came back on the rape kit. Police got a DNA sample from Evans and submitted it to the TBI crime lab for testing.
Testing confirmed Orlando Evans as the rape suspect.
Police arrested Evans on several charges including aggravated burglary, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape. His bond was set at $750,000.
His next court date is March 28.
According to the police report, Evans is a validated gang member.
