A 48-year-old Southeast Portland man accused of raping the girl his wife was babysitting pleaded not guilty to a 12-count indictment Tuesday morning.

    Robert Lee Hill, 48

A Multnomah County grand jury on Monday returned the indictment charging Robert Lee Hill with two counts of first-degree rape, five counts of first-degree sodomy , two counts of unlawful sexual penetration, two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and
    tampering with a witness.

Hill also is accused of trying to convince his wife to lie or withhold testimony against him, according to the indictment.

He's accused of sexually assaulting a girl between June 1, 2014 and April 23.

The girl first divulged the alleged sexual assaults to a counselor at her elementary school on April 23. The school notified police and the state Department of Human Services.

The girl told authorities she was left overnight at the Hill house because her father worked nights. She was physically examined and interviewed at CARES Northwest on April 29.

A man who used to live in a trailer on the Hill property also told police that he remembered seeing Robert Hill chase the girl up the stairs in his home and on one occasion, saw the the alleged victim in Robert Hill's bed, under the covers beside him,
when he walked into his bedroom, Detective Stephen W. Gandy wrote in a probable cause affidavit. Gandy is an investigator with Multnomah County's child abuse team.

Hill was arrested June 12 at Shimmers Bar & Grill, a strip club at 8000 S.E. Foster Rd. He declined to speak to investigators about the allegations, according to court reports.

He's being held on $2.8 million bail at the Multnomah County Inverness Jail. He's due back in court on Aug. 4.

He has one prior felony conviction for delivery of controlled substances in 2001 in Arkansas. He was previously accused of a sexual assault in Arkansas in 2001, but was not convicted, according to court records.
