Naeem Bernard (Megan's Law)
BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — In Bedford County, a Wilkes-Barre man accused of raping a child in 2005 is now facing charges.
Bedford Borough Police say 39-year-old Naeem Bernard raped a 12-year-old girl while in a house full of other children.
According to a criminal complaint, the group of kids had returned to a house along East Pitt Street and Bernard was also there.
Several witnesses say they saw him assault the girl in a bedroom.
Police say it took several years to obtain DNA evidence from Bernard connecting him to the crime and that he is also a tier two registered sex offender.
Bernard has been charged with rape of a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child and statutory sexual assault, court documents indicate.
He’s being held in the Bedford County Prison after he couldn’t post bail.
Bernard’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 3.
