Knewz.com is reporting that FBI Director Kash Patel now leads both the FBI
and ATF, a dual role that has drawn criticism regarding his agency
priorities. His decisions and proposed reforms at the ATF have sparked
concern over the agency’s future. CNN recently reported that Patel
considered reallocating 1,000 ATF agents to the FBI, which Patel later
denied as claims which are “entirely false.”
ATF officials clarified that only 150 agents have been temporarily
reassigned for border-related operations, with current staffing levels unchanged. Patel said, “This weekend, CNN reported news of a plan on the
part of our leadership to ‘cut as many as one third’ of ATF agents and reallocate 1,000 agents over to the FBI.”
Patel added, “The report even suggested our leadership team altered course after reading a news report, and ultimately backed off certain aspects of changes. This ‘report’ is entirely false.”
Patel said, “The fake news will NEVER be responsible for operational
command authority over the ATF, we are. The brave men and women of the ATF
who courageously dedicate themselves to protecting the American public
will not have their security jeopardized by the media’s disinformation campaigns. When we make decisions, they will be final, regardless of the
input of CNN or any other news organization.”
Addressing legacy media outlets, Patel stated, “You have written
everything you possibly can about me that’s fake, malicious, slanderous
and defamatory. Keep it coming. Bring it on, but leave the men and women
of the FBI out of it. They deserve better.”
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has proposed merging the ATF with the
DEA to streamline operations. Critics argued that such changes could
undermine ATF’s ability to regulate firearms and combat gun crimes
effectively.
Over a dozen Democratic lawmakers have called for Patel’s removal. Critics argued his lack of experience makes his leadership unsuitable.
Gunowners of America and CCRKBA supported Patel, citing the need for
reform within the ATF and a reduction in regulatory overreach. CCRKBA
Chairman Alan Gottlieb believes the ATF can re-focus under Patel’s
leadership.
Gottlieb stated, “Maybe these Democrats are concerned that Patel will investigate possible abuses the agency allegedly committed during the
Biden years. While they complain how ‘it is unconscionable that someone
without experience fighting crime, responding to mass shootings or
confronting domestic terrorism has been named as ATF’s Acting Director,’
under Patel’s leadership at FBI, the agency has just caught its third
‘Most Wanted’ fugitive since President Trump took office.”
