    The demographic backstory of current voters is vastly different from two generations ago. Folks come from different traditions and so see everything different. Both the left and right. There is no center and no common belief
    or tradition. The decline in military service as well as a common
    educational system also fragments us. Ocasio's socialism matches the global left, and Trump's populism matches the global right. The Madisonian
    Federalist ideals no longer hold sway. I learned politics door-to-door and phone banking instead of mass rallies, which were more common abroad. We are replacing the 1900 petitions with ranked choice voting and top-two

    TV media and social media have helped create the divisions. People
    don't really talk to each other anymore. They talk at and expect their positions to be accepted as fact regardless of questionable accuracy.

    Look at dinners in public. Everybody is playing with their stupid
    phones.
