FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A driver with five prior DUI convictions caused a serious accident on Highway 99.

CHP says the driver stopped his truck in the middle of the freeway near
Manning Avenue and turned off his lights.

Unable to see the truck until it was too late, the driver of a Ram truck crashed into it and flipped, blocking all the northbound lanes.

Fortunately, the driver of the Ram was wearing a seatbelt and was not
hurt.

The DUI driver, who was found to be nearly three times over the legal
alcohol limit, was airlifted to the hospital and subsequently arrested.

Authorities confirmed that his injuries are not life-threatening.

Officials emphasized the dangers of impaired driving, stating, "Alcohol
impairs judgment, leads to poor choices, and risks innocent lives."
