LOS ANGELES - Federal authorities have announced the launch of Operation Guardian Angel in Central California, a program designed to counteract the state's sanctuary policies by seeking federal arrest warrants for criminal undocumented immigrants held in county jails.

The operation aims to ensure that these individuals, including gang
members and felons, are taken into federal custody despite state laws that limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

    What we know:
This program targets undocumented immigrants with criminal records who are currently incarcerated in county jails within the Central District, which includes Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo,
    Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties.

The operation utilizes federal arrest warrants to take these individuals
into custody, a move intended to bypass California’s sanctuary state
policies that often prevent local law enforcement from cooperating with
    federal immigration detainers.

    The backstory:
California's sanctuary state policies have been a point of contention
between state and federal authorities. These policies generally limit the ability of state and local law enforcement agencies to detain individuals
based solely on immigration status or to notify federal immigration
    authorities about their release.

According to United States Attorney Bill Essayli, "Even the worst criminal aliens in state custody are frequently released into the community because California’s sanctuary state policies block cooperation with federal law enforcement. These laws effectively render federal immigration detainers meaningless."

A specific case highlighted the tensions arising from these policies. In February 2025, José Cristian Saravia-Sánchez, an undocumented immigrant
with a prior conviction for vehicle theft and a history of multiple
arrests and a prior deportation, allegedly killed a man in Inglewood.

Local law enforcement, constrained by state law, could not comply with a federal immigration detainer request in his case.

    How It Works:
Operation Guardian Angel involves a federal task force comprising agents
from ICE, FBI, HSI, DEA, and ATF, operating from an office in downtown Los Angeles.

This task force daily scans criminal databases using fingerprints to
identify undocumented immigrants in Southern California jails who have previously been deported from the United States. Re-entry into the U.S.
after deportation is a federal felony under 8 USC 1326.

Once an individual with a prior deportation is identified and booked into
a local jail, the task force seeks a federal criminal warrant for felony re-entry, which must be signed by a federal judge. Unlike administrative
ICE warrants or detainer requests, these judicial warrants cannot be
ignored by sanctuary jurisdictions under California law.

    What they're saying:
United States Attorney Bill Essayli stated, "The days of giving criminal illegal aliens a free pass are over. While California may be presently disregarding detainers, it cannot ignore federal arrest warrants." He
further explained the strategy behind the operation: "With this operation, we're going to be neutralizing California sanctuary state policies. We're
going to flood the system with warrants for criminal illegal immigrants
who are in county jails, they can ignore a detainer, but they cannot
ignore a criminal arrest warrant. They have no choice, they will comply,
and if they don't, if they interfere with our ability to arrest a federal felon, they can expect to face consequences for that."

    Why you should care:
The implementation of Operation Guardian Angel signifies a direct
challenge to California's sanctuary policies and has implications for
public safety and the relationship between federal and state law
    enforcement.

Supporters of the operation argue it is necessary to protect communities
from dangerous individuals who might otherwise be released due to
limitations on cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

Critics, however, may raise concerns about the potential impact on
community trust and the role of federal intervention in state and local
law enforcement matters. This operation highlights the ongoing debate surrounding immigration enforcement and the balance between state
    sovereignty and federal authority.

The Central District of California is home to an estimated 1.5 million undocumented immigrants, according to federal prosecutors.

    What's next:
The U.S. Attorney’s Office anticipates that the number of arrests under Operation Guardian Angel will continue to grow as the task force continues
to identify and seek warrants for eligible individuals in county jails
across the Central District of California.

The response from state and local authorities to these federal warrants
will be closely watched, as will any potential legal challenges to the operation's approach. The long-term impact of this operation on
California's sanctuary policies and the broader landscape of immigration enforcement remains to be seen.

enforcement of immigration laws for some nefarious reasons.

So criminal illegal alien invaders, aka "the community" in woketard

I would rather they go after those who aid, abet, protect and conceal
    such criminals from federal authorities.

You have no evidence to show that anyone is doing that, scooter.

Then there is no reason not to go after them.

If you have no evidence of any "them," scooter — and you don't — then there is no reason to make any effort to go after anyone.

Then we don't ahv a problem with the launch of Operation Guardian Angel
since you assert it won't impact anyone.

It is an expensive victimless crime to prosecute.

A lot of crimes could be said to be victimless.. by they are still illegal.

But there are victims.. people who are unemployed because an illegal worker
is going the job. the people who are homeless because illegal aliens are renting the apartments and that demand has driven up prices. People who have
to work for less because illegal aliens accept lower wages, because they
know they will never file for income tax and take the maximum number of deductions only to disappear each year or assume a new name as a 'new
    employee' doing the same job.
Na, there are victims we may not be able to always identify all those who suffered due to the illegal activities, but they are there.

However, I do agree it is expensive to prosecute.. which why it makes much
more sense to deny them entry and secure the border which is far cheaper
than trying to chase them all over the country because Biden decided the law
no longer applied on his watch. Well, now you get to pay for what that idiot did.

LOS ANGELES - Federal authorities have announced the
    launch of
Operation Guardian Angel in Central California, a program
    designed
    to counteract the
state's sanctuary policies by seeking federal arrest
    warrants for
    criminal
undocumented immigrants held in county jails.

I would rather they go after those who aid, abet, protect and
conceal such criminals from federal authorities.

Why not do both? That would be a win-win.

    Both works for me.

100% agree. That includes activist politicians, lawyers,
    corrupt cops
    and judges.

Nobody elected here is violating federal laws.

Then they have nothing to worry about when the FBI digs into
    their activities.

Just wasting money that could be used on Medicaid.

    Those would be Republican farmers.

    You wish.

However, if true, that still doesn't change my statement. Indeed
given your attitudes you should be all for it.

Why? We have a deal with immigrants. They stay mostly quiet,
work hard, and make money for themselves and farmers. Everybody
wins. You want to kill children of Republicans. I want to
    protect them.

So you approve of criminal activity?

Do not waste money beyond need. Stores buy insurance for theft.
As long as the premiums are small, it can be cheaper to pay the
    stores than harass paying customers.

So much for using crime then as an excuse to demand people give
up the right to their guns.

    Stores buy insurance for theft.

Which increases costs for the store, which increases costs to the consumer.

The only one making out is the criminal.. unless we do something about them.

Stores discard food, fresh or frozen, that has not been sold
quickly enough. Freezers fail leading to discards of thawed food.
    Stores have lots of costs.

Rather than an expensive and futile moral crusade, they control
costs when they can. If it gets too bad, the government increases
policing such as CHP doing shoplifting enforcement.

People being people is a constant. It is about control not
killing your way to a perfect society.

True.. but theft is another cost.. and an utterly unnecessary one.

Rather than an expensive and futile moral crusade, they control costs when they can. If it gets too bad, the government increases policing such as
    CHP doing shoplifting enforcement.

You really think the CHP would be allowed to do shoplifting enforcement
unless a store was already being subject to massive losses and they managed
to have some sort of political pull? Particularly given some governments
have set policies to state that theft of less than $1,000 is not worthy of their time.

Oh, but apparently you think that is a waste of effort and we should simply accept higher prices, merch being locked up, and stores closing because shop lifting shouldn't be a crime unless you still over $1,000 in one go. With
that level of theft.. everyone that goes shopping should just fill up their cart and walk out knowing it's less than $1,000

And when no stores remain... people complain about how stores refuse to
    service their community.

It's simple business.. when a store is no longer profitable.. it goes out of business. Grocery stores are particularly vulnerable because most run on
less than 1.5% of gross profit being their net profit. They can't afford to lose much of that before it's just not worth it to do business there
    anymore.
PS. Gross profit is what pays employees, it pays taxes, it pays the
utilities, it pays for everything else other than replacing what you sold.
So that money is already being spent. that 1.5% or less is ALL they have to cover loses and provide for shareholders, etc.
