On Monday, Memorial Day, many in the U.S. remembered those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-MD) did a Memorial Day post on X.
But his next X post revealed that he won the award for the "next Democrat
to embarrass himself by going to El Salvador." He was in El Salvador,
trying to see Kilmar Abrego Garcia on Memorial Day.
Ivey posted a video giving an update on their effort to see Abrego Garcia, saying he was the "Congressman who represents Kilmar."
He said he contacted their ambassador and our ambassador in El Salvador to
make a request to see Abrego Garcia.
But Ivey said they wouldn't let him see his "constituent," they told him
to go back to San Salvador and get a permit.
"That's ridiculous," he railed.
"They knew we were coming, they knew why we were coming, and they know we
have the right to do this," Ivey said. "So, they need to just cut the
crap, let us get in there and have a chance to see him and talk with
him...Let us in!' he ranted. He was with Abrego Garcia's lawyer and a man
from a Maryland union of which Abrego Garcia was a member.
First, let's note that Abrego Garcia is not a constituent. Last time I
checked, El Salvador is not a part of Maryland. Abrego Garcia is not a
voter or a citizen in Ivey's district in Maryland.
Second, what a strange thing it is to advocate not only on behalf of
someone who was an illegal alien and an alleged MS-13 member, but on
behalf of a foreign national. Why should El Salvador listen to you about
how they deal with their citizen? You're trying to dictate to them and
throwing a fit? They might have to grant access to the lawyer, but why
should they care about a member of a foreign Congress?
Third, Ivey is supposed to represent his actual constituents, the citizens
of his district.
Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen did get to see Abrego Garcia. He infamously
sat with him at a table with a couple of margaritas. Three other Democrats
also went to El Salvador in a performance-laden visit, but they didn't get
in to see him.
There was a report that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries had been
quietly telling people not to go, but the Jeffries people denied that
report.
So it looks like they're continuing to go down this path of linking
themselves to illegal aliens. The American people are supportive of
Trump's immigration policies, according to polling.
So please, keep it up, Democrats. It should go over well. Not.
