A Glasgow cyclist was left shocked after a car pulled out in front of her, forcing her to leap off her bike.

Sophie Ferns was driving along Crow Road on the afternoon of Sunday, June 25, after finishing work when she noticed a black car roll out into the street.

CCTV footage shows the scary moment the 27-year-old had to take evasive action and swerve out of the way which resulted in her crashing on the road.

Following the incident the driver of the vehicle fled the scene, according to Sophie.

Sophie told Glasgow Live: "I was heading home from work down Crow Road.

"It was raining quite heavily and as I came down the road I could see this car rolling forward.

"He peeked his nose out onto the street and I could see him looking in my direction. As I got closer he continued to move forward so I had to swerve round him to avoid hitting him.

"I came off the bike. I was very angry and shouted at the man to stay where he was because it looked as though he was about to shoot off.

"He pulled out in front of me so I needed his insurance details. It took me a minute or two to move my bike out of traffic. In that time the man had driven away.

"He got out the car, stood next to his front door to check if I got back up and that's the last I seen of him.

"All the other witnesses had gone. I immediately drove to Partick police station to report the incident.

"After that I went to A & E because I have broken my finger and pulled all of the muscles in my leg which has forced me off work."

The shaken motorcyclist lost faith in humanity after she was left alone following the life-endangering moment.

Sophie now worries about getting back on the bike once she is fully healed.

The 27-year-old said: "I feel worse now than I did when the incident happened.

"At the beginning I just felt angry but as time has went on I've just felt worse about it. I feel a bit nervous about going back on my bike now. I'm also now booked in to get my ligaments checked over.

"I couldn't walk very well for the last few days."

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.

Why didn’t the lady cover the brakes in preparation for stopping safely?

Where was her Hornit and 5000-lumen front light?

Why don’t cyclists *ever* seem to consider braking?

22500 people get killed or seriously injured EVERY YEAR and we never hear of 90% of these cases.

Sometimes they seem to prefer the term ‘breaking’, as a psychological deflection of an unwelcome reality.
