    A cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after colliding with a
    lamppost in Wakefield.

    The man, in his 60s, crashed his electric-powered bicycle with a lamppost
    on a footpath in the A6194 Neil Fox Way. The collision happened shortly
    after 4.55pm yesterday (September 3).

    He was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries. No other vehicles
    were involved.

    Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, particularly passing motorists
    who may have dashcam footage, has been asked to contact West Yorkshire
    Police's Roads Policing Unit by calling 101 or go online at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat, quoting reference 1331 of
    September 3.

    It was the fault of the lorry driver who made a close pass (he was no
    more than a couple of streets away).

    Note also the cyclist collided “…with a lamppost on a footpath…”.

    Wasn’t he looking where he was going?

    Why was he cycling on a footpath? The clue is in the name, after all.
