“We hope to begin the statutory and consultation processes needed to introduce these restrictions in the near future,” they added.

Hope all you like, sunshine, but until cyclists learn to look where they
are going, more deaths are to be expected. If they can’t find motor
vehicles to crash into, any street furniture will do.
Over the period 2018 to 2022, some 542 cyclists died on GB roads. Of these,
88 involved no other vehicle, a surprising rate of over 16%, or 1 in 6
cyclist road deaths.
The cycling world ignores these fatalities in favour of celebrating
cyclists who are killed exercising their rights at e.g. roundabouts known
to be risky to traverse.
But what will happen when there are no motor vehicles? SVA cyclist deaths
will rise with the much-lauded increase in cycling numbers, but who will
then be blamed? How many more fatal SVAs will it take to change attitudes?
