• rear wheel locknuts

I'm refurbishing my old Raleigh Pioneer 140 . I changed the rear hub
cassette since it was a bit worn and the pawls were slipping. There's a
couple of spacers and a locknut on the cassette side, but on the other
side only a couple of serrated washers. I don't recall ever seeing a
lock nut , but intuitively I think there should be one. I took it all
apart carefully and noted where all the parts were.

Anyone comment ? I don't think that putting a thin locknut will do any
    harm.

I don't remember any use of locknuts from my teenage cycling years, but
I'm sure that using one on the nearside rear wheel axle fixing can only
    be of benefit.

It is a long time since I tinkered with such things but, yes, I recall a
lock nut. They weren’t all the same. Some needed a special tool, at least
in theory. Of course, things may have changed in 50 years. 😀
