Bristol – or at least a very small slice of it – now resembles Copenhagen, thanks to the installation of new support rails for cyclists, a first for
the city, which will enable people on bikes to rest their hands and feet without getting out of the pedals while waiting at traffic lights on two
steep city centre hills.

And which, unsurprisingly, have already been branded a “complete waste of taxes” by angry motorists.

The leaning rails, or foot and hand rests, have been installed near the top
of both Colston Street and Upper Maudlin Street, where a new segregated
cycle lane was recently opened (despite a few early, parked car-related hiccups), as one of the finishing touches to a long-running active travel scheme.

The poor dears. They MUST be awfully tired after riding their chav-bikes
up Colston Street.

But hang on... surely they should be *boycotting* Colston Street until
and unless its name is changed. Perhaps to Mandela Hill, Corbyn Way or something of that sort?

Glad to see there are some bicyclists who are also complaining about
this colossal waste of money on resources for a non-solution to a
non-existent problem.

Actually, it’s an undisguised demand for even more taxpayer-funded infrastructure, the clue being in the quote [it’s] “just a gimmick without better infrastructure”.

No! No!

The article says these rails are there to enable cyclists not to have to
suffer the inconvenience and indignity of having to ‘unclip’ when stationary at the traffic lights. There must have been too many cyclists
who fell flat on their faces because their clips were too tight, and that
would never do. It might smudge their Lycra.

This only affects cyclists, of course. Those who merely ride bicycles wouldn’t have such clips anyway.

LOL. Presumably there isn’t a convenient statue that cyclists could lean against.
